Thursday 15 May marked Compassion Australia's ninth annual Compassion Day bringing a 'new day' to more than 1200 of the world's poorest children.
Compassion Australia would like to extend its deepest gratitude to all the participating radio stations and the Australian Christian Channel for their involvement and support of Compassion Day 08.
"We are incredibly grateful for the phenomenal result of this year's campaign," said Compassion Australia CEO, Paul O'Rourke. "Every child sponsored on Compassion Day has been given hope, a new life and dreams for the future."
For the first time, radio stations broadcast live from Compassion's head office in Newcastle. Aaron and Dan from Sydney's 103.2Aaron and Dan from Sydney's 103.2 began the day with their breakfast show followed by Newcastle's Rhema FM whose live broadcast continued until 10 pm.
Compassion Australia's Marketing Director, Natalie Moses said: "The atmosphere in the office was vibrant. We had excellent promotion on air and a superb team taking calls throughout the day. We know that many radio station staff and volunteers worked tirelessly around the clock to bring Compassion Day 08 to life; it is their hard work and commitment that makes Compassion Day so successful. We are in awe of God's faithfulness. Again, He has shown how much He wants to bless the world's children through this unique Christian media partnership."
The 1200 sponsorships pledged by listeners in response to Compassion Day 08 will provide children living in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and other parts of the world, not only with the basic material things they need to survive, but also with opportunities and skills they need to help break the cycle of poverty and fulfill their God-given potential.
Compassion Day will be held again in May 09-celebrating its 10th anniversary.
